1. What products are compatible with the Dragon headset?

The Dragon is compatible with all Bluetooth®-enabled cell phones, PDAs and VOIP products.

2. How do I connect the Dragon to my cell phone?

Pairing the Dragon is easy. When you power on the Dragon (by pressing the rear power button, it will automatically go into a discoverable state. From your cell phone's Bluetooth menu you need to search for devices nearby. Select the "Callpod Dragon" and enter the PIN code of '0000'. Some phones require you to take the next step and initiate the connection to the headset, and some phones will establish the connection automatically. The next time you power on the Dragon, it will automatically connect back to your phone. You may be prompted to accept the connection on your phone.

3. How do I connect two Dragon headsets together?

To connect a Dragon to another Dragon for 2-way communication over a 250,000 sq ft area... turn on the first headset and it will automatically go into discoverable mode. Turn on the second headset while pressing the multifunction button at the same time. The second headset will flash blue and it will immediately pair to the first Dragon and establish a connection automatically. Once the audio connection is established, you will notice that the multifunction button on either side will turn the audio channel on and off. If either party wishes to talk, simply press the multifunction button. To mute the channel, either side may press the multifunction button.

4. How can I connect multiple headsets together for group communications or conferencing?

You can do this using the Callpod Phoenix. The Phoenix links up to 5 headsets in a group conference or push-to-talk communications environment.

5. How do I deal with charging multiple Dragon headsets and cell phones? I dont want to carry around all those power cords

The Chargepod was specifically designed to charge up to 6 products such as Dragon headsets, cell phones and PDAs with a single power plug.

6. How do I pair multiple devices and switch between Skype® and my cell phone?

To pair a second device (or PC) to your headset, simply tap the power button and the Dragon will go into a discoverable mode. Now you can pair and connect from that second device (or PC). The PC will usually turn on the audio channel immediately. When you get a call on your cell phone, you can answer the call by pressing the multifunction button. At that time, the Dragon will automatically switch over to the phone requesting the audio link. When the call is over, Dragon will automatically connect back to the PC. In a similar fashion, if you are using Dragon-to-Dragon communications AND you are paired to a cell phone, you can switch between walkie-talkie and cell phone by either tapping the multifunction button or automatically via whichever device requests the audio link.

7. How Does the Dragon Achieve its Range Up to 100 meters?

The dragon headset is categorized as a Class-1 Bluetooth device, which is based on a power rating that can transmit up to 100 meters. It uses proprietary RF amplification and software, which enable the headset to pair to any Bluetooth cell phone or computer. In order to maximize the range of the dragon, you should use it with a Class-1 cell phone or computer (using a Class-1 Bluetooth dongle). Many of the newer handsets being introduced into the market will be rated as Class-1 devices (i.e. 100 mW of power).

8. How Will My Dragon Headset Perform with My Class-2 Cell Phone or Computer?

The dragon headset is a fantastic solution for the standard Class-2 Bluetooth cell phone and computer. Class-2 devices typically operate at a range of 9 meters (32 feet). The dragon, when paired to a Class-2 device, typically enhances the performance of standard Class-2 devices by a factor of 2 to 3 times. When the dragon is used in walkie-talkie mode (Dragon-to-Dragon communication), you can maximize the full operating range of the headset of 100 meters (328 feet). In open areas, testing has showed that effective two-way communication was achieved in excess of 450 feet. The dragon represents a new breakthrough for Bluetooth headsets in terms of power, longevity and two-way communication.

9. What's the difference between the Dragon V2 and the original Dragon?

Dragon V2 features a completely new ear wrap and ear bud design which adjusts in three dimensions and fits comfortably all day long - and won't ever come off. We've also made big sound quality improvements on the other end of the call, so people won't even know you're using a headset.

Firmware Updates

When new features are available for the Dragon®, you can take advantage of this by upgrading the software directly on your headset via a standard USB cable connected to your PC. The new Callpod Updater will automatically check for updates for every Callpod device you own.

>>> Download the Callpod Updater <<<

Download the Installer onto your PC (supports Windows 2000/XP/Vista) and extract the zip archive then run setup.exe. After installation you need to connect your Dragon® headset to the USB port of your computer using the cable which came in your package, or any mini-USB to USB cable. Press the power button quickly 10 times place your headset in upgrade mode. You should see the LEDs both turn on together and then turn off. Now, run the Callpod Updater application which will detect your headset and check for any available updates. If you encounter problems running the upgrade, please follow this troubleshooting guide. If you still need assistance please contact us using the information below.

Positioning the Dragon on your ear

If people on the other end of the call are having trouble hearing you, please make sure the Dragon is positioned properly. The two microphones on the Dragon must be positioned towards your mouth, otherwise your voice may be cancelled as background noise. This is easy to do. Once the headset is placed on your ear, simply rotate the headset towards your mouth until the ear bud is compressed comfortably against your ear. The microphones will align automatically towards your mouth as shown below:

Adjusting the ear wrap

The Dragon V2 ear wrap is fully adjustable in three dimensions. The telescoping pin is a tight fit to ensure that it does not slip during normal use. The material is very strong so you can apply pressure and rotate the ear wrap back and forth while moving the pin up or down. If the ear bud tends to fall out of your ear, you can attach the larger ear bud which is included in the packaging of your Dragon.

Mac OS and Skype

For the first time using Dragon with your mac, we recommend disconnecting any currently connected devices. Once you disconnect, the red/blue lights on the Dragon will flash meaning that it's in a discoverable mode.

  • 1. From the Bluetooth menu of your Mac, search for new devices
  • 2. Locate the CALLPOD DRAGON and pair with it using pin code 0000
  • 3. After pairing is complete, quit the Bluetooth menu.
  • 4. Open up Skype. In the Skype->Preferences menu, select the "Audio" tab. Select "CALLPOD DRAGON" as your default input AND output devices.
  • 5. Now when you place a call on Skype or receive a call, the audio will be routed to your Dragon automatically by Skype on an as-needed basis.
  • Optionally, if you want to use your Dragon with other applications, you may set up the Dragon as your default audio input/output device within your System Preferences->Sound menu. If you only need to use your Dragon with Skype, we don't recommend doing this to save on battery life.

Note: It is highly recommended that when you plan to stop using your headset, you first switch the audio settings on your Mac and Skype to use your built-in speaker and microphone. Mac OS sometimes hangs when a Bluetooth device suddenly turns off.

Note for old PPC mac users: You probably need to install this patch from Apple:
